Damian Gough
Virtual Podiatrist Founder
Growing up on the North East of England Damian was inspired to help people with mobility problems after suffering a motorbike crash at age seventeen. Many months of hospital and multiple surgeries gave him a deep insight into the reality for people living with limited mobility. After considering his options carefully, Podiatry seemed to offer the best path to helping people to walk pain free every day.
Graduating from the Chelsea School of Chiropody in 1990 Damian secured a position with Haringey Health and was soon managing the High Risk Diabetic Foot Clinic at North Middlesex Hospital. The challenge of keeping people out of hospital, and preventing amputations was stimulus for further learning around wound management and diabetes care. After meeting Jody, his now wife of over 20 years, he migrated to Australia in 1994 and settled on the Central Coast, about an hour North of Sydney. Working for the local Health Service seemed very limited in its scope so he looked to move out into private practice, and found employment at Umina Podiatry in 1996. After a couple of years He became a partner in the business, eventually buying out the other partner in 2008. In 2011 the business moved to newly built premises where it has continued to expand. Virtual Podiatrist was an idea born of the fact the many people just don’t know what Podiatrists do. Hundreds of hours went into studying and writing copy for the sites to give to the developers. The websites are now in use by over 20 practices in 4 countries with additional content being added regularly. Damian’s other interests include, fly fishing, brass bands, food and drink, and obscure historic accounts of travel and adventure.
